Description:

The famous blue cover: a woman's eyes and lips floating in a night sky, one tear falling, over the lights of a city at full tilt. The title in white script and capitals above, the author's name below. A handmade coaster modeled after a little hardback, spine and all.

This painting was finished before the book was. The publisher ordered the cover while Fitzgerald was still writing, and when he saw it he asked them not to give it to anyone else: he had, he said, written it into the novel. Readers have argued ever since about where. Most say it became the pair of faded eyes on a billboard that watches over the story. Either way, it may be the only cover that shaped the book it wraps, and it has been on the front of The Great Gatsby for a hundred years.

Why you'll love it:

  • The original blue cover — the eyes, the tear, and the city lights — in full color
  • Handmade from reclaimed wood and shaped like a miniature hardback, printed spine and all
  • Fully sealed with a semigloss high-performance top coat — condensation and spills wipe clean
  • Felt feet on the back keep your table free of scratches

Perfect for: party hosts, art deco admirers, or anyone who has ever stayed too long at a good one.

Details:

  • Material: reclaimed wood, handmade
  • Dimensions: approx. 4.25" × 3.75" × 0.5"
  • Finish: fully sealed, semigloss top coat
  • Backing: felt feet
  • A solid piece — modeled after a book, does not open

The kind of coaster you leave out on purpose.
