The title sits above her in bold black letters with the author's name beneath. The story: a man steals a loaf of bread to feed his family, spends years in prison for it, and spends the rest of his life trying to do good. The girl is Cosette, the child he rescues. A handmade coaster modeled after a little hardback, spine and all.

This girl is older than the musical. She was drawn for the very first printed copies of the book, by a French artist who gave her a broom and a tiny face lost under all that hair. More than a hundred years later, when the story was turned into a show, the makers chose his drawing for the poster. They kept her face, dropped the broom, and put the French flag behind her. She has been on theatre walls around the world ever since.
