Look closely at the byline: "by the author of Good Wives." Little Women was published in two parts, and when the second part crossed the Atlantic, British publishers gave it a title of their own — Good Wives — one Alcott never chose. The name stuck so firmly in England that covers like this one ended up introducing her masterpiece by way of its own sequel.
