Description:

A ceramic desk pot shaped like a row of book spines standing shoulder to shoulder, staggered in height the way books on a shelf are — classic titles including Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, Oliver Twist, Sherlock Holmes, Little Women, Romeo and Juliet, Alice in Wonderland, The Secret Garden, Wuthering Heights, The Art of War, and The Canterbury Tales, each with its own cover artwork. Glossy ceramic, sized for pens, pencils, bookmarks, or a small plant.

The spines on this pot span roughly twenty-four centuries of writing. Among them, The Secret Garden was published in 1911, while The Art of War was written in China around 2,500 years ago — the earliest copies that survive are on strips of bamboo tied together, not pages. Most of these titles were written in English you can read straight through today; two of them are why translators have work. Sun Tzu wrote in classical Chinese, and Chaucer wrote in Middle English, where the first line reads "Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote" — and it takes a moment before you realize he's talking about April showers.

Why you'll love it:

  • A little library of cover artwork that wraps all the way around
  • Staggered spine heights, like books of different sizes on a shelf
  • Holds pens, pencils, bookmarks, or a small plant on a desk, nightstand, or windowsill
  • Glossy ceramic that wipes clean

Perfect for: A desk that could use a bookshelf, home offices and studies, teachers, or anyone whose pens deserve better company.
